“I am a firm believer that you can only learn stuff by doing. There is a huge difference between knowing what the right thing to do is and being able to execute it. That's why trading books and demo accounts are mostly useless. One needs to make mistakes and reflect and adapt.

mistake + reflection = progress.
Experience is the teacher of all things.

So only betting small size in a new market is no good, as it distorts risk tolerance. That's why demo accounts for training don't work, because there is no real risk, and this leads you to taking positions you would not take with actual skin in the game.

So I have to start trying new sectors/verticals with some money. It needs to hurt when I lose, otherwise there is no learning effect”.
